Stop a wage garnishment without filing bankruptcy?

My boyfriend bought a dodge dakota a few years ago but couldn’t afford the payments so he brought the truck back to the dealership. He agrees that he owes them for all the payments that he missed and for whatever the dealership loses by selling the now depreciated truck. However, they are garnishing him for the full 26,000 he paid for the truck even though they sold the truck to somebody else. How can he stop the garnishment without filing bankruptcy? What kind of attorney will handle this kind of case? Please help! Thanks!

He definitely needs an attorney. Any attorney should be able to help him — make sure he takes advantage of any “free consultation” deals he can find so he can choose the attorney he feels is right for his case. Most attorneys offer a free consult prior to taking a case.

Also, if the garnishment is VOLUNTARY and NOT thru a court order, he should be able to request that it be stopped through his workplace without much trouble. Worth checking into.
