Im 27 and have been struggling with debt all my life. It just seems to get worse and worse every year and I want to file bankruptcy. I hear it stays on your report for 7 – 10 years? Which one is it it 7 or 10? Is it tough to get a car loan after bankruptcy cause with my credit right now they refuse to give me any credit. $1200 to file with an attorney is a little bit steep for me right now, is there any alternatives to file, and can I pay an attorney every week untill my fee is met?
The public record of the bankruptcy will stay on your credit report for ten years, but the individual debts that were included in your bankruptcy will no longer be listed after 7 years.
Generally, it is not difficult to obtain financing for a vehicle after a bankruptcy. In fact, it is often easier to obtain credit after a bankruptcy because your debt-to-income ratio is significantly improved and you are not eligible to file another Chapter 7 bankruptcy for 8 years.
Most bankruptcy attorneys offer payment plans for the attorney fees, but won’t file the case until all the fees are paid in full. However, many attorneys allow you to refer any collection calls to them as soon as their office is retained.
