The power of networking

"Without the network, you do not get work." – Unknown

What is the power your network? What if I shot today? What if I have to double your business and bankruptcy? What if a loved one needs emergency surgery covered by medical insurance and that it was a matter of life or death? How many people in your network could really help you in difficult times? Would you be able to catch the phone, call one of your contacts, and get a decent job reference or lend money to tie you over?

This may seem too severe and morbid a topic to think during the holiday season, but let's be honest – many employers wait until after the holiday of bad news, and many companies sometimes after one season bad Christmas shopping. So if you do not ask that question, now is the time to ask and answer the question honestly.

Do you think someone did not call for months, even years, will open their wallets or Rolodex and help you out of the goodness of his heart. Maybe. And it's a BIG maybe. But in all likelihood I think not. In fact, it's insulting and humiliating for the person for you, never bothered to stay in touch, and ask that the money strike. If some people do not have the financial means and / or human resources to help, but it is more likely to help someone they know and trust a stranger.

Red is not to distribute business cards and collecting. It is about developing relationships. This is pick up the phone and call and keep in touch with them. Do something good for someone in your network. Talk to your leader agency for your business. Offer to help on a project or to lend a hand if they are in motion. They'll remember.

Keep in touch! And the love of God, if someone gives you an advantage, followed at once! Life is too short and fragile. I remember well ahead of anyone in Contact with the legendary Canadian author Pierre Berton, who wrote 50 books in 50 years, and has won three Governor General's awards and 14 honorary degrees. I kept putting off, and put him, thinking he had all the time in the world, and finally the main deposited somewhere and I forgot. Mr. Berton has died recently at age 84 at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto complications diabetes and heart disease. Canada is at a loss. By the way, I'm at a loss.
