Tax Debt Relief – The How's

To request a reduction in tax liability, there are steps you must follow. If you scored loan modification, you may qualify for tax exemption under the Mortgage Debt Relief Act of 2007. These steps can help guide through the process.

First, determine whether you are a qualified candidate. When debts are forgiven because of bankruptcy, foreclosure, loans without recourse, and certain cases of agricultural debts you can qualify. The nest step would be to ensure the Form 1099-C.

You can get the form of the lender, and is called the debt cancellation. The lender will send the form to you and the amount remitted can see into the box number two. Apart from Form 1099-C, you must also complete Form 982 or Attributes tax cuts due to discharge of indebtedness. This form is required if the report the IRS on forgiveness of debt.
