How does Consumer Credit Counseling calculate payments?

My husband and I will be going thru CCC with a non profit agency and we will be meeting with them next week. We have approx 42k in credit card debt and pay around $1400 monthly on all of the credit card payments. Does anyone know what our new monthly payment to CCC might be? We are thinking they might be able to reduce the payments down to around 1000 monthly but we’re not sure. Thanks.

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you but I do have a suggestion. Be VERY careful with Credit Card Counselors. Many of them are scam artists. Make sure the “non profit” agency you are working with has been in business for several years. Often times you can work out deals directly with the credit card banks themselves and not have to pay 3rd party fees. You’ve found yourself in a desperate situation and there are several scams out there to offer you help when you need it most but they are really out there to rip you off. The first thing you need to do is destroy your credit cards!!

Good Luck. Don’t get ripped off.
